Even though I had heard about our portal, this was the first time I was visiting the site. It is a wonderful effort Anil……. It was a journey through time… …It took me 30 years down my memory lane… A journey which I never thought I would undertake...My school life was one chapter in my life that I did not want to revisit ….I never had many memories of my school life…that was I thought of till I visited the site…I was more of a loner ….did not have any one to call as a close friend with whom I could confide my inner feelings…I did looked upon some of our class mates (unni, sudhi, ramdas ( both ramdas and sudhi were good in studies and sports too), with awe….their academic brilliance and methodical ways in class made me think as to why I was not able to be like them. …. I think only few teachers did acknowledge my presence in class ….one being Mr.MM George who would ask questions to last benchers me and Jacob and we did answer very few and that too due to the presence of Swathi near us….Yes and when we were in 6th or 7th the day of receiving the progress card where Fr. C.P Varkey used to walk in with a cane and used to hand over the progress card along with a certificate of merit (signed with as many number of strokes as there are red lines in the card) ….I think on an average I had about 3 red lines inevitably (Physics, Chemistry, Maths)…in fact I felt that I was a non-entity in the school. I think teachers too ignored me since I also did not have any nuisance value even though I was not good in studies. Yes I really did enjoy the pranks of Jacob, Sabu rajan, Babyjohn, sunil, Philip, Mathew Thomas (who were the “God Fathers”) …The only time I felt good was during the games period…where I was reasonably good in playing football…I could ‘head’ the ball well and I did move quite fast in the football ground…but deep inside I felt very insecure and was very timid….Yes the only thing which I still remember in my whole school life with such vividness is getting the “best athlete” award. One reason why I was not able to compete with most of my class mates in athletics was the fact that in Class X too I was competing in Under 14 age group. My birthday was in 1964…so I think I was one of the youngest in the class…(But I am quite sure that if we were to assemble today…I will beat most of the guys hands down in physical appearance and will be senior most in our group). Yes I can never forget our morning and evening jaunts to the school…We used to walk down from my home to school…it was about 30 minutes walk….across the green paddy fields, small rivulets and mangroves….I really do miss that part now. ..We were one group from near kalampally and MC Johns was another group who came from pongumoodu….
Ha ha that was indeed a good trip…..and I think Anil’s work did trigger in me some memories which I never thought did exist in my sub-conscious mind. I also personally acknowledge the works of others like Renny etc who had kept those school magazines from where those snaps were taken…
